Component Relations Manager Job Purpose 

Under the direction of the Director, Governance & Tripartite Relations, the Component Relations Manager serves as the key liaison between CDA and the 32 local component dental societies. Responsible for serving as a primary and regular channel of contact/communication on organizational matters with the dental society staff, and frequently with the dental society board. Maintains credibility and trust with executive directors and volunteer component leaders to enhance and strengthen component relationships.

  • Responsibilities
  • Builds and maintains strong business relationships among the components and CDA, consistent with the strategic plan and management objectives; provides effective and continuous communications; offer best practice guidelines and support resources.
  • Coordinates with CDA departments and business units to respond to component requests for information and support or to address complaints or concerns regarding CDA services, programs, or policies.
  • Coordinates annual officer visits to components, including preparation material such as component profile information, talking points regarding key organizational priorities, and coordination with trustees and component executive directors.
  • Initiates and manages regularly scheduled meetings (approximately 3-4 per year) with all component executive directors assuring that meetings are mutually beneficial.
  • Initiates individual and small regional meetings with executive directors throughout the year.
  • Identifies training and development opportunities for component staff and leaders; coordinates education efforts with the Leadership Development Program Manager in an effort to strengthen component association management competencies and services to members.
  • Designs and presents workshops related to component executive directors and leadership. Plans annual orientation for component leaders to educate and apply best practices at the components and be familiar with the roles of CDA and components in serving members. 
  • Ensures components -- through the executive directors and boards, as appropriate – regularly receive information about CDA’s programs, services, and organizational matters, as well as analyze information and feedback from components about such matters.
  • Serves as secretary to the ADA House of Delegates13th district delegation. Collaborates with staff and volunteer leadership on necessary events, meeting agendas and resolutions.
  • Assists and supports Director, Governance & Tripartite Relations with appropriate ADA activities in relation to component support.
  • Participates in applicable organizational activities as assigned, such as work groups, task forces, etc.

Required Education, Licenses & Experience

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Understanding of association management and California not-for-profit corporation structure.

Preferred Education, Licenses & Experience

  • Minimum five years experience in a non-profit or membership association, preferred.
  • Membership program, governance, and policy experience preferred.
